Exam Only Suggested Preparation:

1. Review of the Official NMJL Materials

  • Study the Mah Jongg Made Easy rulebook carefully.
  • Familiarize yourself with all rules printed on the back of the NMJL card.
  • Be prepared for situational rule applications (e.g., dead hands, Stopping the Charleston,  and simultaneous calls).

2. Brush Up on Teaching Methodology

  • Think about how you would structure a beginner’s course.
  • Consider pacing, sequencing of lessons, and handling common struggles (Charleston, exposures, joker exchanges).

3. Practice Rule Explanations

  • Be comfortable explaining rules clearly and concisely to a new player.
  • Expect questions that test both knowledge and your ability to communicate it.

4. Prepare for Scenario-Based Questions

  • Some exam questions may be situational to reflect a real-life classroom.
  • Practice how you would resolve disputes or rule clarifications as the instructor.

5. Exam Format & Passing Score

  • The exam is multiple-choice.
  • A minimum passing score of 80% is required.
  • One retake is allowed if needed.
