Robbie Johnson brings more than 35 years of experience as a trainer, coach, and mentor to her role as an Accredited Instructor with the School of American Mah Jongg. As a national coach in her professional career, teaching and guiding others has always been at the heart of what she does—and she brings that same passion, patience, and clarity to the Mah Jongg table.
Robbie was first introduced to American Mah Jongg at a coffee shop in Abilene, Texas, where she received a brief overview before being left to play on her own. Like many beginners, she initially found the game confusing and overwhelming. Determined to understand it, she returned home and studied the instruction book, laying the foundation for what would become a lasting passion.
Spending part of her time in Gulfport, Mississippi, Robbie continued playing and deepening her understanding of the game. What once felt frustrating quickly evolved into an appreciation for the strategy, beauty, and strong sense of community that Mah Jongg offers. Her natural ability to support and guide others became evident early on, and she was soon asked to assist with beginner tables. Students consistently praise her patience and her clear, structured teaching style that builds both understanding and confidence.
As an Accredited Instructor, Robbie is dedicated to helping beginners develop a strong foundation while truly enjoying the learning process. She is committed to continuing her growth under the mentorship of Debbie Barnett, further expanding her knowledge of strategy and advanced play. Robbie is passionate about not only teaching the game, but also fostering the connections, friendships, and joy that Mah Jongg brings to every table.
